I just recently finished The Good Part by Sophie Cousens and loved it! She's become one of my instant-buy authors ever since her first book, This Time Next Year (which I also highly recommend!) Her books always make me laugh out loud, so if you're looking for a feel-good book, this is one to grab.

Lucy is a 26 year old woman who is tired of trying to make ends meet, of being in a job where she doesn't feel appreciated and of meeting men who are not hitting the mark. After a terrible day that ended in a fight with her best friend and a bad date with a man she met online, Lucy wishes she could just skip to the good part of her life. To the part where she has everything she'd ever wanted, both in her professional and personal life. When she wakes the next morning, she finds herself in a bed that isn't her own, with a beautiful man sleeping next to her and two cute kids who call her Mum. She discovers she's skipped 16 years of her life, has a family, a high powered job and remembers nothing about how it came to be. Yesterday she was 26 and today she's 42! Has she time traveled or lost her mind? She's amazed at her accomplishments but at the same time knows she's way in over her head. With no choice but to navigate her new life, she slowly finds her footing and thinks that she can do this. She can live this life she's woken up to. But the question is, does she want to?

The story has loveable characters. Lucy is laughout loud funny. Her husband Sam is oh, so dreamy and her kids are too cute. One of the major parts of the story are Lucy's best friends and their relationship. It's a reminder of how lucky we are to have those friends that grow with us versus apart over the years.

This book really made me think, if given the opportunity to skip to the good times in life, would I? I think most people would say 'absolutely, 100% yes!' I found myself pretty torn about it towards the end of the story. If you already have everything you wanted right there in front of you, can you really just walk away? At the same time, is it worth staying knowing that you'll never get to live the experiences that brought you to that point in life? Imagine not being able to live through the first time you meet the love of your life, not live through the experience of becoming a parent, not living through the elation when that first big break in your career finally happens.

Although it might sound very cliché, I believe it's the not so good times in our lives that really shape us into who we are and create the path to who we are meant to be. Even though it's hard to go through the sucky times, it does make the good times that much sweeter. "It's not about the destination, it's about the journey."

What about you? Would you skip to the good part? If you've read the book or decide to pick it up, let me know your thoughts.
